Bedtime is probably the most difficult time for most parents with healthy children. It is especially difficult for my close friend and her daughter because her little girl has autism. She has called me at midnight or later to come help her with her little girl at bedtime. The little girl’s name is Josie, and she is 6 years old now. For some reason, I am the only person she relates with. I do not know if it is because I am around a lot, or if it may be because my friend, Terri, her mother, deals with the challenges everyday, and is stressed. Perhaps it is a combination of the two. I am less stressed since I am not there 24/7. I am a fresh person, calm, and I read to her. Josie loves Winnie the Pooh. We have a lot of fun, and her relationship with her mother has gotten much better. Terri attributes that to me helping for all these years. Terri says she has learned by watching me how to relate to her in a better way.
Our bodies react differently to the foods we eat. Some people do better with higher protein foods, and others are better with higher carbohydrates. My cousin, Tim, who has adult autism is on a high carbohydrate diet. It seems his body handles the carbohydrates better, thus making his life less challenging. I remember when they first put him on this diet, and took his cookies away from him. He couldn’t have fat, or too much sugar, so his carbohydrates are good carbohydrates . During the first few weeks, my aunt faced many challenges, and problems with his change in diet. She had to keep her eye on him almost 24/7. He would wake up in the middle of the night (he never has slept well) and go right to the refrigerator for a sweet snack. He had been gaining unhealthy weight, and had been acting out a lot. He now is used to his new diet plan, and he is much more responsive than ever.
It always amazes me when people plan a diet, but cannot stick to the plan. Let’s face it, most people set themselves up to fail! According to many statistics, dieting is problematic for 87% of the dieting population. This number is staggering considering the fact that most people setting out to loose weight, truly want to get thinner for one reason or another.
One of the primary reasons dieting is problematic is because most people do not have enough perseverance to stick with the diet as prescribed. When they do not get the quick effective weight loss like they want, they, for the most part, blame it on the diet itself.
Well, it’s not the diet or diet plan that fails, it’s the person who sets out with good intentions, but discontinues the directions of a specific diet.
For instance, a person cannot expect effective weight loss if they skip part of the directions such as how much of a particular food or calorie intake they can have during one meal. It’s like baking a cake, if you happen to leave out the eggs or put in too much water, the batter gets messed up and the cake doesn’t turn out right.
It sounds simple doesn’t it? Well, in the end, it’s not simple at all. This is true because most people give in to their cravings and make it hard on themselves. You may be saying to yourself, “How is this possible? I am trying really hard not to give in.” Well, that may be true for some. For instance, the people with particular medical problems find a most difficult journey that actually produces effective weight loss. It is either their metabolism or some genetic disorder that keeps them from losing weight.
But what about the people who should do just fine on a diet? What keeps them from not losing weight? One primary reason is because they do not make a specific plan of action. If you are on a diet for effective weight loss, then don’t go around the bakery, the bar, or the people that do not support you in your weight loss endeavor. Instead, get some support from your family and friends. When you have meals together, nine cases out of ten, they will cook or eat the things you are aloud to eat.
Another primary component that gets ditched in a diet is exercise. Try to do a little each day. You don’t have to do X amount of crunches, sit-ups, or miles to exercise. Start off slowly doing something very simple and work your way up to say the crunches and sit-ups.
So what are you waiting for? If you truly want to have long term effective weight loss you have to take the first step by realizing you need to loose weight.

A recent article touting the wonderful effects of adding strength training to your regular workouts for results in the weight loss department. I thought this was common knowledge.
I discovered this myself shortly after my pregnancy. I had always been nice and fit. Ex-gymnast, ballerina etc and just a high metabolism person. But months after my pregnancy I couldn’t seem to lose those “last 10 pounds”. You hear it often but I had never experienced it. I didn’t have the freshman 15 in college. Didn’t gain weight like everyone promised after high school and even starting my 30’s I was still the same weight as in high school. But pregnancy? That did me in.
I worked out daily with my sister. We were determined. Cardio, cardio, cardio. A few squats here and there. Some crunches but man I was still big! Then I happened upon some well known weight training videos for women in a second hand store. They were hard but they were fun. My body wasn’t used to the weight so I started small. Three and Five pound weights. I was having so much fun. Then I had to get eight pounders. Oh i also needed ankle weights. The weight was dropping off! It was so wonderful.
Then I plateaud. Common with heavy workouts. I got kind of sad about the whole thing and put the weights down. I still had 2 or 3 I would have liked to removed. I thought it was about that much. My lower regions were still kind of chunky. So I lost my momentum and put the weights away.
A few weeks later I picked up a well known female exercise enthusiast’s 20 minute workout. Nothing big. I knew her stuff was easy but it had been a few weeks since I worked out. It was all cardio too and I was kind of tired of weighs. OHMIGOSH! I lost about 5 pounds that week! I know I sound like an informercial. The bottom line for me was a combination of both. The weights definitely started the ball rolling but I had pretty much omitted the cardio because the weights were so fun and actually for me easier. Cardio made me breathe hard. Ick!
Well that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it. Get some weights ladies (and gents). Workout carefully and make sure you lift right. There are some videos to show just how it’s done too.
Have fun!

Did you know that dieting and weight loss are two of the most common resolutions or goals by many people but usually results to failure? Don’t give up yet. Stay committed and read through.
If you really want to lose weight, forget the fad diets and eat breakfast and drink milk. Starting each day with milk and cereal may be the success for achieving a healthy weight.
Many people don’t realize to eat breakfast but to skip entire morning tastes, either because you’re in rush or lazy, or just want to reduce weight. Considerable number of people finish with a soft drink or a cup of coffee as their morning meal. Chances are this is going to have an opposite effect on you because skipping meals almost always leads to overeating at lunchtime. This is especially true with breakfast, because you’ve just been asleep for 7 or 8 hours and your body needs to recover from this brief period of starvation.
Studies show that people who regularly eat breakfast, particularly cereal with low fat or fat-free milk, tend to be leaner compared to those who skip the morning meal or eat other options. Also, breakfast eaters are more likely to have long-term success in maintaining a reasonable weight. There is a finding that a cereal and milk breakfast is a habit common to successful weight loss maintainers.
Combine that with studies drinking 24 ounces of milk a day with healthy weight loss, and you’ve got a strategy that may lead to lost pounds. Multiple studies have shown that people who drink milk and get adequate amounts of calcium in their diets tend to weigh less than their peers who don’t drink milk. A diet deficient in calcium has a higher risk for being overweight.
Weight Control by Eating Eggs
Eating eggs for breakfast can reduce hunger and caloric intake by more than 400 calories, both at lunchtime and over the next 24 hours. As a result, eggs are useful in helping overweight people reduce their energy intakes, a prerequisite of losing weight. This is great news if you’re trying to lose weight as it means you may find it easier to cut calories without feeling hungry. In fact, you could expect to lose up to 2lb. a month, simply by eating eggs for breakfast!
Eggs are packed with various nutrients but contain just 85 calories each. There’s also no limit to the number of eggs you can eat in a week contrary to popular belief.
Other studies found that protein-based breakfasts improved weight loss better than carbohydrate-focused breakfasts. The better effects are increased when it’s combined with exercise.
Should I avoid eating certain foods for the sake of weight loss?
Forget about avoiding eating a certain food that you like to eat - that’s a dieter’s mentality and it doesn’t help you lose weight. It just makes you obsessed about food and eating. Instead, if you are really hungry, then eat, and stop as soon as you’re satisfied. Just don’t eat until you’re totally full! So, if you’re hungry during breakfast, then eat. If you’re not hungry during lunch or dinner, then have a smaller meal.
Keep in mind that you should not eat too many sweet foods. No matter what time you eat sweets, if it’s more energy than your body can use, it will be stored, meaning excess kilos.
Fad diets won’t work and only provide short-term results. Instead, always enjoy a wide variety of healthy foods and be physically active. Fad dieting is a hindrance that you don’t need in your life.
Things to Remember:
* Eating breakfast increases your metabolism and burns more kilojoules during the day, which can help you lose weight.
* Protein-based breakfasts improved weight loss better than carbohydrate-focused breakfasts.
* Eggs are great protein-rich breakfast, complete with zinc, iron and vitamins like A, B, D, E and B12. Long ago, people thought that eating many eggs contributed to health risks. This is not true and it’s already proven that they don’t contribute to high cholesterol or heart disease.
* Don’t be afraid to eat a reasonable portion of your favorite dessert or snack food every now and then.
* Try to eat steamed vegetables and drink soup in the morning. Did you know that this is common in Japan? It may take some time getting used to, but the benefits are: reduced fat and added nutrients from the vegetables.

I often start my naturopathic or medical intuitive exam out this way to insure the body is in alignment with the brain. I have the client hold their arm out. As I test the resistance in their muscles, I have them repeat after me, “I want to live.” If the arm drops, the body is not in alignment with the brain. This is called being psychologically reversed. Most times there is a way to fix that with an easy exercise. Here it is:
Lightly tap on the backside of each hand, between the ring and little fingers and centered between the knuckle and wrist. Got your bearings? Now repeat this phrase out loud three times as you tap the points on both hands:
“I totally and completely accept myself, with all of my problems and all of my shortcomings.”
That’s it. Now check your work. Have the person whose arm has dropped hold their arm up again and say, “I want to live.” The arm should stay up and the muscles should be able to resist the pull on the wrist downward.
Repeat the exercise 3-5 times a day for about a month.
Oh, just one tip. Men resist this exercise and often feel anger and resistance in doing it. When queried, “Did you do the exercise?” many of them will not have completed the process at home. Women often can’t get through the sentence the six times it takes to do the exercise. They start to cry (and they act so surprised that tears are coming out.) Offer a tissue and do it anyway. It’s often a major step in the healing process.
So, what if the body never comes into alignment with the brain? Bad deal. You will need to make some choices. One of my cancer patients, Virginia, was like that. No matter what I offered she found an excuse to not comply. She couldn’t eat raw foods, prepare meals, take supplements on a regular basis, take a daily bath, or change her attitude. She forgot to make appointments with the massage therapist. She did not drink her water. About the only thing she continued were homeopathics and her Rife machine treatmentsand coming to see me because I listened. The lumps started coming back in force. Some days, not one positive thing would come out of her mouth. Her husband was with her all the way, although she found much fault with him. It must have been difficult, at best.
Life is part of a cycle. There is a time to live and fight and a time to release and die. It was time for Virginia. She had completed her lessons and had been present for the soul lessons she signed up to help others complete in this life.
One day I just said, “It’s time to change my focus on your case.”
“Are you giving up on me?” She asked tearfully.
“Heavens, no! I’m just changing my focus. It’s time for me to support you in the process of dying.”
And that’s what I did. As transitions go, it was nearly perfect. We discussed the dying process, what she would experience and what she should focus on. We discussed pain killers, and when to take them. We discussed the side effects of drugs, and I worked with her in determining when she should let the medical system take over (which she had resisted most of her life even to the point of refusing a mastectomyone breast had just rotted off.) We talked about God, religion and the philosophy of life. She was able to take short day trips with her husband and be out-of-doors. She stopped denying herself the foods she loved and ate what she wanted to. She spent the last days with her familymending emotional fences and making peace with her father. Hospice provided her with the perfect volunteer, who had the same religious beliefs as she had.
The most amazing thing was that after living with cancer for almost 10 years, she died pain-free. I occasionally feel her energy around me. She’s kicking up her feet and very busy on the other side, doing all the things she was not able to do on this side for so many years.
Until we meet again Virginia. It was an honor to be of service.

The near extinct bois de santal has a sensual and exotic scent that gives an elevating experience for those who use it. The oil extraction process of the sandalwood is lengthy; the tree has to be about 30 years old before the process can take place.
Ecology
The tree grows to 20 to 30 feet high, with many slender branches covered by smooth greyish-brown bark. The leaves are petiole slender measuring half an inch in length. The flowers are small, pinky and shortly stalked in an erect pyramidal terminal.
Aroma Bois de santal essential oil is a pale yellow, greenish or brownish liquid with a blend of deep, balsamic, woody fragrance with spicy oriental undertones.
Health Notes
With its expectorant and antispasmodic properties, bois de santal is soothing for coughs and chest infections caused by bacteria.
Its also helps to stimulate the immune system.
As an aphrodisiac, bois de santal produces an ingredient similar to the male hormone androsterone secreted in the armpits as a sexual signal.
The anti-inflammatory effect of bois de santal is good for suppressing boils while its antiseptic properties fight acne. It also relieves itching or discomfort after shaving.
The relaxing scent of bois de santal helps soothe tension and anxiety. A point to note, however, is that it may be more sedative than uplifting.
Bois de santal oil relieves intestinal spasm and inflammation, and may be useful in colic and gastritis.
The method know as three dimensional ultrasound is used when a woman is in early pregnancy, it provides 3d pictures of the fetus. Most of the time these ultrasound images are quickly collected and combined and animated to make a 4d ultrasound scan.
Three dimensional scans works in a similar way to the normal ultrasound scanning methods except that the ultrasound waves can be sent from many directions. The waves can be redirected back and captured and provide information to construct a 3-dimensional image in very much the same way as 3d pictures. 3 dimesional ultrasound was started by stephen smith and olaf von ramm.
It’s important to understand that sonologists worldwide have always pictured three-dimensional images of anatomy or pathology in their minds while doing 2d scans. However, until recently it was not possible to do this type of reconstruction on on data using ultrasound. With the introduction of baby scans for the first time allowed us a view into the thinking of a sonologist and hence letting us see the images on the ultrasound machine.
3d/4d imaging should utilize ultrasound energy following the same limits as conventional 2d ultrasound to create the 3d images. There is no data to suggest harm due to 3d ultasound scanning, its use in none essential situations needs to be undertaken with the understanding of the risks.

Hearing voices does not mean you are crazy. This is so even when a voice tells you to commit suicide or to kill someone else. People do sometimes obey those commands and this fact makes it urgent to do something about command hallucinations. Many common attempts to do something are simply futile. One cannot close one’s ears to the voices. Medications dull consciousness long before affecting the voice. Auditory hallucinations often persist even after electroshock treatment. Such treatment efforts are protracted and demoralizing to the person and the end point is usually an uncertain claim that the voices are “gone.”
An entirely different approach to dealing with voices is recommended by some clinicians that work with trauma, which is the most common origin of voices. They say, “talk to the voices.” They explain the voices as vocal parts of yourself that have their own ideas and opinions. If you are willing to negotiate with them you may be able to help them become less extreme in their efforts to participate in your life. First, it will help to learn more about their nature and their role as parts of you.
The Nature of Voices
Usually the individual voices have been constant companions and are recognizable to the person as male or female and young or old. Sometimes there is a single voice, but more commonly there are groups of voices; some with prominent roles and some just bit players. There may be the crying of infants or young children and there may be cries of other traumatized selves. When there are young, helpless children there may be older protectors. There is no limit to that internal world. Voices keep arising as consequences of traumatic experiences.
A person may hear only one or two voices. This “layer” often contains a commanding voice urging total subjugation and humiliation. It may impel the person to drink or to starve or self-cut, or it may demand suicide. The person typically reacts with automatic, trance-like obedience and may be saved only by appeals from another voice saying “No,” or the intervention of another actual person. One may come to realize that these voices represent past selves that are still locked in the trauma that froze their action. Other voices are protectors of young traumatized selves and some are keepers of the “secret” as commanded by a perpetrator.
The Externalized Dialogue With Voices
Talking with a voice requires externalizing the voice, which is best done by writing a message to the voice, addressing it as “you.” This will be the first of a series of taking turns, each addressing the other as “you” or by name. Now it is the turn for “Voice” to speak. You may have to write for the voice at first but before long Voice will speak for itself, your hand moving by its will.
The rules for the externalized dialogue are three: 1. Take turns. 2. Don’t interrupt. 3. Write complete sentences. The dialogue with commanding voices can begin with an exploration of their roles and their feelings. Usually their roles began as attempts to help the person. Unfortunately, even suicide might be regarded as a helpful solution for the need to escape. A successful negotiation with the suicidal part can substitute less extreme solutions.
Voices Have Quirks
There are certain quirks that characterize the majority of voices. Knowing about these quirks helps to understand the power of the externalized dialogue.
Voices are gullible: Voices arise outside of consciousness in the brain tissue that normally relies on the conscious language processing of the brain to provide syntax and leadership. The dissociated states of self with their voices may be desperate for leadership and for the missing elements of syntax. The practical consequence for voices that represent self-states frozen in past traumas is that their identity and roles are ripe for reframing by the individual’s present verbal mind. The externalized dialogue is a practical vehicle for communicating with those voices, influencing them, and reframing their identity and roles.
Voices hear voices: When someone negotiates with a voice that urges suicide and finally gains agreement to pursue a different option, this may not be the end of the matter. There may be another suicidal voice ready to fill the role vacated by the first suicidal voice. Separate negotiations with different voices may be necessary.
The best defense is a strong offence: The fiercer the voices sound at the beginning, the meeker they are in the long run. People may be terrified of their voices and also fearful for the safety of others if that fierce voice “gets out.” However, once engaged in the dialogue the voice becomes simply another aspect of the person and, more often than not, a younger aspect.
Voices can be wise. Some voices become helpers by providing a clear-headed response to the negative voices. Some voices exemplify a wise archetype or a role of “inner-self-helper” described in the psychiatric literature. That helpful voice can be called on during the course of therapy using the externalized dialogue process.
A Safe Self-Help Technique?
Many people have used this as self-help after going through a one or two-week intensive trauma therapy program and they reported no difficulties or complications.

Many people are living with the seeds of the deadly killer Mesothelioma lurking inside there bodies.
It can take 10 to 15 years after exposure to asbestos and other cancer causing agents for the Mesothelioma to become active. Litigation regarding mesothiolma should surge in the years to come. Mesothelioma is a very serious disease.
If you or your loved ones becomes a victim of this devastating disease what are you options? Where will you go for support? Where in the country are the best treatment centers for Mesothelioma. Who will aggressively protect your rights in court?
What about the suffering that it causes? What about the years it takes off someone’s life?
The first step is to determine if you or anyone in your family are potential victims of the deadly curse.
Up to 9 out of 10 cases of mesothelioma are caused by exposure to asbestos. Asbestos is a natural mineral, mined from rock found in many countries. It is made up of tiny fibres that are as strong as steel but can be woven like cotton and are highly resistant to heat and chemicals. Absestos was used in construction, ship-building and the manufacture of household appliances.
Talk to your family members, discuss you history of exposure to any of the above examples.
Be prepared to battle this devious and cunning disease.
Find a quality mesothelioma lawyer. This is where Mesothelioma laws come into play. Every state has very stringent laws regarding asbestos material.
Dieting is not easy. If it were, we would probably all be thin. Since we are not, here are some tips that successful people use to lose weight so that others can benefit, too.
SUCCESS TIP NO. 1: DRINK 8-10 GLASSES OF WATER EACH DAY
Okay, for many people this is a big problem. Water doesn’t taste all that great generally because water doesn’t really “taste” like anything. Drinking water 8 to 10 times each day gets easier the more you actually do it. It is simply a matter of conditioning your taste buds, and yourself, so that it becomes easier to do. Once you get started, you will begin to crave water.
To begin with, you should drink a glass of water in the morning first thing, before you eat. This is probably the easiest glass you will drink all day and it will help you remember to drink water all day long. Better yet, why not drink two glasses?
If you really cannot bear the taste of water, try using a water purifying pitcher or filter. You can also add a few drops of lemon or lime to your water - but no sugar or sweetener! Ice also helps.
Check out flavored waters on the market, too. Just keep an eye out for additives.
SUCCESS TIP NO. 2: EAT BREAKFAST
Do not skip breakfast. If you need to go to bed a little earlier so that you can get up 20 minutes earlier each morning - do it! Breakfast is so important to your good health and to weight control. According to Dr. Barbara Rolls a professor of nutrition at Penn State University, “Your metabolism slows while you sleep, and it doesn’t rev back up until you eat again.”
Eating breakfast is not only good for overall weight loss, it will help you stay on track with your diet the rest of the day. You are more likely to binge on something sweet and in the “bread” group if you skip breakfast.
You can always keep a couple of hard-boiled eggs in the fridge or some high-fiber, low starch fruit around. If you plan to eat fruit at all during the day, breakfast is the perfect time to do it.
SUCCESS TIP NO. 3: EAT AT LEAST 3 MEALS AND 2 SNACKS EACH DAY
This can be one of the hardest adjustments to make. After all, you are busy! You already have a “full-plate”. When do you have time to worry about filling your plate with more frequent meals?
Just like eating breakfast will increase your metabolism, so will eating more often. This will also help you curb your bad-carb intake by making sure that your snacks are planned and occur regularly throughout the day.
Really, it will just take a minimal investment of planning time at the grocery store and at home each morning before you head out for the day to make some healthy food choices and prepare a few healthy snacks and meals. For suggestions, just see the handy list of snacks and appetizers listed later.
SUCCESS TIP NO. 4: AVOID WHITE FOODS
This is one easy way to remember what not to eat. If it is made from sugar, flour, potatoes, rice or corn - just say no. Remembering this rule of thumb will make it easier to recognize those rice cakes as an unhealthy high-carb snack.
Always look for colorful fruits and veggies to substitute for the white ones. Buy broccoli, lettuce, bell peppers, green beans and peas, brown rice in moderation, leafy greens like kale and spinach, apples, melons, oranges and grapes.
These foods are not only colorful they are also high in fiber, nutrients and important antioxidants. Eating colorful fruits and vegetables will give your diet variety as well as give you added health benefits.
SUCCESS TIP NO. 5: EAT YOUR VEGGIES
It is so easy to use a low-carb diet as an excuse for poor nutrition. Resist this temptation. If the only vegetable you have eaten in the last 5 years has been the potato, now is a good time to begin experimenting with other vegetables. This is important for your overall health and to avoid some nasty side effects of not getting enough fiber in your diet.
If you try hard enough, you will find vegetables that you enjoy eating. Experiment with grilling veggies and cooking with real butter to add flavor. You can also search for new recipes on the Internet or in cookbooks.
Remember, if you are only eating 40 grams of carb a day or less, two cups of plain salad greens contain only about 5 grams of carbohydrate. You have no excuse not to eat your veggies.
SUCCESS TIP NO. 6: PREPARE YOUR OWN FOOD AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
While more and more restaurants are offering low-carb friendly menu items, many of them are still not ideal low-carb fare. There are many recipes for quick and easy meals that you can prepare yourself at home. Try to do this as often as possible.
If you cook your own foods, you know exactly what the contents are and you will be able to better control for hidden sugar and otherwise processed foods.
Another benefit is the cost savings over the long run. Even if you must go to the grocery store more often, you will save a significant amount per meal as opposed to eating at restaurants and fast food establishments.
It will also be easier to maintain your diet with your own favorite fresh food selections on hand.
SUCCESS TIP NO. 7: INVEST IN A GOOD SET OF FOOD STORAGE CONTAINERS
Having food storage containers of various sizes on hand will make it so much easier for you to plan your meals and snacks. When you buy nuts, fruits and vegetables in bulk you can simply prepare, separate and store them for easy use later.
For instance, you can pre-slice your apples and snack on them over several days. Simply cut them, rinse them in pineapple or lemon juice and store. This will make a quick and easy snack for later.
Fix your lunch and take it with you to work. Better yet, fix your lunch and 2 snacks for work.
SUCCESS TIP NO. 8: EAT SOME PROTIEN AT EACH MEAL & AS A SNACK
In addition to everything that’s been discussed before, eating protein helps you burn more calories. Jeff Hample, Ph.D., R.D., a spokesman for the American Dietetic Association says that, “Protein is made up mainly of amino acids, which are harder for your body to breakdown, so you burn more calories getting rid of them.”
Just think - eating a protein rich snack can help you lose weight. How about a few slices of turkey or ham or some string cheese?
Eating protein will also help you feel full so that you are less likely to crave unhealthy snacks.
SUCCESS TIP NO. 9: DRINK A GLASS OF WATER AFTER EACH SNACK
This will help you get in your 8 to 10 glasses of water each day but it can also have other benefits. Ever feel hungry after eating a handful or standard serving of nuts? Try drinking water afterwards. The water will help you feel full and prevent overindulgence.
Drinking water after a snack will also help remove the aftertaste from your mouth and can help curb your desire for more.
SUCCESS TIP NO. 10: EAT SLOWLY & ENJOY YOUR FOOD
You will feel full and more satisfied if you take the time to savor your food and chew it slower. Don’t get in the habit of eating while standing or eating quickly. Sit down and chew.
Eating slower will help you enjoy your food more, pay attention to what it is you are actually eating and get a better sense of when you are actually full.
