Celebrating Fathers Day with Pop
Wednesday 23 June 2010 @ 7:26 pm

June is a Terrific time for Dad. Fathers Day comes mid-month and is a celebration of all he does for the family. Most Often, it is a day to let him have some time on his own to sit in a hammock while sipping a cool drink with nothing to do. That’s a great way to celebrate, but your youngsters may wish to do something additional hands-on to show their appreciation. Using the following Father’s Day Ideas will ensure you have a Father’s Day worth remembering.

Father’s Day is the one day out of the year set aside just for dads; many other times they take second place to moms. Make sure your dad (or grandpa or husband) feels special with a handwritten expression of love, gratitude or sense of humor for a job well done. Even if you think that he is not a poem-reading kind of guy, our tips to Father’s Day Poems and Quotations has something for everyone, whether it be a new daddy, loving grandpa, a sensitive soul or a class goofball.

If your dad is all about food, he will be excited with this idea. The evening before Fathers Day, give him with a card that promises him a Father’s Day full of feasting. You can either keep the menu a secret or print out a mini-menu to tuck into the card. Either way, he’ll be eagerly anticipating the coming day! While some dads love a good home-cooked meal, others favor to wine and dine at their favorite restaurants. Consider which plan best suits your dad’s preferences.

Continuation Bets and Floats
Tuesday 8 June 2010 @ 9:15 am

Skilled poker players make careful bets based on their cards, the other players and the pot size. Some bets are linked to specific strategies, with the continuation bet a common tactic.

A continuation bet is one made by a player who raises pre-flop. That initial raise was meant to convey strength, and the continuation bet post-flop reinforces the strength of the initial raiser’s hand. Continuation bets are part of a bluffing strategy too. A poker player may raise pre-flop with A-K, which the flop misses completely. The raiser makes another bet post-flop anyway with the intention of maintaining a strong hand image.

Then there is the floater bet, which is a variation of the continuation bet. A floater is basically a delayed continuation bet. A player raises pre-flop, then checks the flop to see a free turn card. When the turn comes, the player then makes another continuation bet after “floating” the turn card.

Both bets carry risks. The continuation bet as a bluff doesn’t always work. The floater allows an opponent to stay in the hand longer so they will contribute more chips, but a floater bet also allows an opponent to see the turn card for free and they could hit a draw that puts a bad beat on your hand.

You don’t always want to be obvious about making continuation bets, and so floaters are often a good alternative so your play is not so predictable. Vary it up in your next poker online tournament.

Sky Lanterns Aid Emotional Healing
Monday 7 June 2010 @ 9:47 pm

Sky Lanterns have come to be linked with times of pleasure, celebration combined with festivity. Justifiably so. No wonder they have turned out to be admired party accessories since they make a alluring presentation and are extremely theatrical and dramatic. Even a lone sky lantern will also be a thoughtful means of observing the departure of a cherished one.

Demise is something every body, young and old, has to confront at some moment in their existence. Just as it is written into our makeup that we should feel adoration and hunger it’s a component of the human condition to have to feel that type of grief in addition to distress. Many find it challenging to digest death and battle to realize the definiteness of it, as mortality has a weird overwhelming enigma. Individuals also have exceedingly distinctive ways of handling it, some deter it away, others plunge themselves in their grief, others face built up sorrow, and find themselves mourning lots of years later.

All this appears a terribly gloomy and depressing topic used for a post, although there is a goal to it. Though I would not for a moment recommend that sky lanterns make death more manageable, they do still fetch different individuals, in addition to give them the breathing space and time to silently deliberate their sorrow.

Exonerating sky lanterns subsequent to a remembrance or burial, truly can be a polite mode of commemorating to a person that has been lost, and in addition, it is the real portrayal of an emotional discharge. As you permit the sky lantern go you’re letting go a tiny part of your sorrow, or a tiny part of the person you are mourning. In fact the purification outcome is personified by the sky lantern’s saga.
A sky lantern won’t edit grief sharply, but it’s going to submit a break to handle it head on moreover to start- incredibly gradually and extremely definitely- to come to terms with it, also to-in an extremely minor approach- let it depart.

Caro on Poker and Life Six Secrets
Tuesday 11 May 2010 @ 11:05 am

Caro on poker and life 6 Secrets Tip 6: Keep your hands concealed. If you were going to rob a convenience store, you wouldn’t wave your gun around the parking lot, pointing it at customers and flaunting it all the way up to the cashier as you walked in. That would totally ruin the surprise element of a stick up and thus hamper your chances of successfully pulling it off before what you’re up to is discovered. Your poker hands, well, you should teat them the same as you would that concealed pistol. Not that you should go around stealing from convenience stores, but you get the idea. The key point to take away here is that you’ll be more successful in playing online poker if you learn to keep secrets. This means not giving up your hands and not volunteering information about your hands that you need not have volunteered in the first place. This is as true in poker as it is in life. It may sound cold, but getting information is much more valuable than giving information. There are people around the poker table that will love to share their thoughts about things, especially hands. Caro has a genius strategy that he uses when he’s playing, and it takes a bit of discipline to do this, as we’re all egocentrists at heart, but instead of talking about himself, as many players are prone to do, he’ll ask them about themselves, for example after a hand goes down, he’ll ask how that particular online poker player would have played the hand. Then, when the time is right, he’ll see that opportunity arise against that player, he’ll take advantage of it, and call down and win the pot. The moral of it all is: you’ll gain a lot more by listening and retaining than talking and telling. Caro challenges everyone to try this technique not only on the felt but in real life. He says, “people are flattered to be asked of their opinions,” and a lot of controversy can be overcome by simply asking someone how they feel about, or would handle a situation. The key he says is, “gathering as much information about others as possible, while keeping your own secrets concealed.”

There’s an Old Saying
Tuesday 16 March 2010 @ 9:00 am

There’s an old saying: There’s no crying in baseball. But is there no crying in poker? I was witness to an odd scene recently at a casino game of no limit hold ‘em that I never saw before.

Two players were in a hand, both slowplaying what seemed to be big hands by both of them on the flop and turn. Then the river came and the betting started wildly. They both ended up going all in and turning over their hands. One fellow had a full house, while the other one turned up four of a kind.

Now, it certainly is disheartening to lose with a full house, but it happens sometimes. But the fellow who lost then suddenly started weeping at the online poker table! No one else really knew what to do or say, it was actually quite uncomfortable. The guy started saying how that was all the money he had saved up to buy his girlfriend an engagement ring, and now he had nothing and she would leave him. Who knows if it he was telling the truth, maybe he was trying to get the casino to give him money (which would never, ever, ever, happen) but either way it was a first for me, and I suspect everyone else at the table. Needless to say, the game of poker online never gets boring, and you always see some surprising things.

Good Poker Grinders Have Good Poker Software
Wednesday 17 February 2010 @ 10:55 am

When you spend the majority of your time playing poker online, you need to play with good poker software. Let me define what I mean by good poker software. Good poker software is easy to use, easy to download, and generally use friendly. You should be able to get to the games quickly without having to deal with a whole lot of technical fluff. You should also like the look and feel of the software. Some things just feel a little off. Good poker players need to have software that is fundamentally good in its technical aspects, but also good in all of its special attributes. We all have our individual poker online preferences, and you need to search high and low to find the poker software that fits your individual quirks. For example, some people like to play using poker software that allows players to upload pictures of themselves. That way home players can feel like they are playing against real people instead of against a computer. Some people prefer avatars or computerized images so that they can focus more intently on the game. These details are things that you will need to decide when you are finding the good poker software that you will need to be a truly good poker player.

Calling Preflop
Monday 1 February 2010 @ 11:15 am

Raising to enter the pot is a good idea, but if someone beats you to the punch, you’ve got a few decisions to make. You may have a playable hand, but the poker online player who bet before you is showing that he’s got a hand that he wants to bet with.

If you assume that your opponent is playing honest, you’re going to need a monster hand to play with him. In cases like this, pocket 10’s, which is a fairly strong hand, is a risky one to play with. Assuming that your opponent is telling the truth, the odds are that he has at least one over card, if not a higher pocket pair.

If you hold on to this mindset, you’ll be folding every time someone raises against you. Luckily for you, not every poker player plays honestly. Oftentimes, your opponent will be buying blinds, and your hand may have a decent chance of beating him.

Paying attention to your opponents’ hands will give you an idea of the hands that your opponents like to play. When you have a feel for what hands your online poker opponents will be playing, you’ll know whether or not to call your opponents’ bets.

Bankroll Fail
Wednesday 2 December 2009 @ 10:54 am

Let me tell you about my first and a few others first bankroll failures. I mean this gets ugly. First time I decided to play online poker, decided to buy in for 50 bucks. I was used to playing the live ring games with less, so I figured I’d dominate online with 50 bucks and turn it into a lot more real quick. I was wrong. I got dealt KK my first hand at the .25 .50 tables. I raised, reraised, then went all in. I was up against AK and guess what hit. Of course and A, and guess what didn’t. Of course a K. Out my first hand. This all before I learned about bankroll management. So I rebuy for 25 and move down a stake, still at one buy in. Again, a decent online poker hand. AK. AK2 hits the board. I push again after a raise. And double up. Next hand, the dreaded KK. Again, I have to play it right. 3 betting, 4 betting, finally all in again preflop. This time up against QQ. I have this hand dominated right? Nope. Q hits and again my K fails to hit. I tell you this story to show you that variance is a very high thing in online poker, especially online where you get so many more hands to play. Had I been playing with 50 bucks at the .01/.02 tables where 2 dollars is the max buy in, I’d be doing just fine taking a beat like that. But I was a novice then, and I wasted 75 dollars in about 20 minutes. Don’t get like me when you’re first starting out.
