Interviews with Well-Known Ezine Writers #3: - Shelley Lower
Thursday 30 April 2009 @ 7:07 pm

MS: Shelley, you’re an excellent person to talk to about Ezine Articles, because - as well as being a prolific Ezine Writer - you own and operate the largest article announcement lists on the Internet (www.web-source.net). How would you rate Ezine Articles as a promotion technique?

SL: Writing Internet articles is one of the best promotional strategies used online. Not only will it provide you with massive free publicity, but it will also build your credibility and promote you as a trusted professional in your area of expertise.

MS: How long have you been writing Ezine Articles and what are the main topics you write about?

SL: I’ve been writing articles for the last four years and I write mainly about Internet marketing, Ecommerce, Web Design, and Web Development.

MS: Shelley, are Ezine Articles your principal web marketing technique?

SL: Yes, writing articles is my main marketing strategy, as I have found it to be highly effective.

MS: What sort of Articles have you had most success with? In your experience, what kind of Articles are most in demand?

SL: I have found that articles written to teach and inform are the most in demand.

MS: Shelley, some Ezine Writers promote a product or service in their Resource Box, while others aim only to get a subscription to their free Newsletter. What would your advice be for getting maximum results from your Resource Box?

SL: I use a combination of both. I mention my product within my bylines, however, I concentrate more on gaining new subscribers. By obtaining my readers’ email addresses, I will have the opportunity to advertise my products over and over again. A long-term relationship with a subscriber is much more beneficial than trying to make a one-time sale.

MS: What have you found to be the most effective ways of getting your Articles published?

SL: I use a combination of methods. The most effective method I use is an opt-in list. I enable my visitors to subscribe to my publishers list to receive new articles as soon as they’re released. The second most powerful method I use is article announcement lists. Some additional methods include posting my articles on my website and submitting them to article directories.

MS: Apart from getting your Articles published in Newsletters, are there any other ways you use your Articles to promote your website? (such as turning them into a free E-Book)?

SL: In addition to getting your articles published in ezines, syndication services provide a great way to gain massive free promotion. If your article is published, it will be displayed across hundreds of websites.

MS: That sounds like something every Ezine Writer should be doing. You own and operate an article syndication service yourself - can you tell us more about that, Shelley?

SL: Sure, Michael. The Syndicator is a unique service that enables webmasters to publish complete articles (with the author’s photograph) and/or just headlines on their website. These articles are available in several different categories including Business, Internet Marketing, Biz tips, Web Development, Web Design tips, Home/Family, Horoscopes and others. Each article feed displays fresh articles each week and is automatically updated.

MS: What kind of exposure could an Ezine Writer get through your syndication service?

SL: The Syndicator provides content to over 4,000 websites, including co-branded syndication sites. In addition, the syndicated content is dynamically delivered to over 10,000 ebooks circulating the Internet, with a combined audience of nearly half a million viewers each week.

Syndicator: http://www.web-source.net/syndicator.htm

MS: That’s a huge audience! What sort of articles does the Syndicator accept?

SL: The articles selected to run in syndication should be well written in simple, everyday language that everyone can understand. They should provide our readers with quality information that teaches and informs in regard to the subject matter.

Submissions:
http://www.web-source.net/syndicator_submit.htm

MS: Some people say - with regard to Ezine Articles - that everything that could possibly be written about has already been written. What would be your response to that?

SL: There’s an endless number of subjects on which to write about. But even if a subject has been previously written about, every writer has their own style and their own opinion - your article will have its own uniqueness.

MS: What would you say is the single most important style tip for writing a good Ezine Article?

SL: Articles should be well written in a simple, everyday language. And, provide readers with quality information that teaches and informs in regard to the subject matter.

MS: And finally, Shelley, what would be your advice to someone who wants to write Ezine Articles but has never written for the Internet before?

SL: If you really want to get published, write your articles with a sincere desire to teach and inform. Talk to your readers and share your expertise.

MS: Thank you, Shelley - you’ve given us some great tips.

SL: Thank you, Michael. It was my pleasure.

Exchange Rates Terminology
Thursday 30 April 2009 @ 8:45 am

A not insignificant amount of fledgling traders can become jumbled-up when the topic of debate gets down to exchange rate jargon, though the insider terminology astonishingly is fairly plain. Consequently whether you’re a sole trader or a big firm seeking to exchange overseas currency; the following are a scattering of easy and elementary explanations which might with a smidgen of luck drive off a little of the mystery and make the often misunderstood process of making extra income by exchanging overseas money a lot less trouble. To get started with money exchanges have a look at some sites.

Beginning at the start with the most straightforward of explanations an exchange rate is the particular price at one specific nationalities money could be converted to another’s. So for an example the exchange rate would be the amount of Argentina Pesos you would buy in exchange for every single Laos Kip.

Fixed exchange rates are of course known by the title ‘pegged exchange rates’; they are used to stabilize the value of a currency; particularly at moments when that currency is fluctuating in value heavily; to support business and investment.

Floating exchange rates - this is when a national currencies value is calculated by market powers. This is a much more risky way to conduct business but also this is the scenario wherein you might well enjoy the opportunity to make a profit,

You might often additionally hear talk of animals in exchange circles; a bull is a person that believes market prices will go up conversely a bear is a person who foresees that market values will fall. A bull market is a market where values are currently going up conversely a bear market is the exact opposite - a marketplace where prices are actually moving down.

A currency broker is a person who acts as an intermediary person in-between yourself and the market - they are actually regularly in the position to obtain you the very best price during times when you are looking to acquire or conceivably sell.

The dollar rate is the value that one unit of any currency has when put against one unit of the American Dollar; this is a useful indicator for a national currencies value.

This is really by no means a comprehensive group of terms - it is merely a good starting point; but with a little groundwork you could be markedly on your way to now becoming a financial expert in no time at all.

The Ironman Triathlon… On a Glass of Water
Thursday 30 April 2009 @ 6:36 am

If I could take one thing back from all the ironman training I did over the years, it would be the thousands of laps I did in the pool with the hopes of thrashing out a faster swim time.

If you are an age grouper or a novice Ironman, there is really no point in spending hours and hours in the pool if you are already at the point where you can easily handle the distance. To devote your valuable training time to enable you to complete the swim 4 or 5 minutes faster is a very poor return on your time investment.

It seems that there are many ironman athletes out there who push way to hard in the swim. The excess energy you burn in that opening leg is simply not recoverable and won’t be there for the bike and run.

I firmly believe the reason so many people hit the wall in the marathon, is because they expended so much in the swim. The bike leg just finishes the job of depleting your resources.

There’s no medal for swimming fast. There’s not even a t-shirt if you swim fast and don’t cross the finish line. Even being the very first out of the water means little is you can’t put three events together.

Take for example Kona, 1984. The winning swimmer was Djan Madruga. You might be asking yourself, “who the heck is he?” My point exactly. Djan was a world class swimmer and he beat the likes of Dave Scott, Mark Tinley and Mark Allen out of the water that day. His swim time was 47:48. However, Djan ran a 4:47 marathon and Dave Scott ran a 2:53.

This is where my theory comes in of running an Ironman like your energy, strength and endurance are all contained in a full glass of water when the start gun sounds.

Try and avoid expending half of that glass of water before you even get on the bike. That means your glass could well be down to the last quarter—or less, before you even put on your running shoes. I really believe there is a direct relationship between the Ironman shuffle and a poorly executed swim.

I remember the race where I finally began to understand pace and how best to nurse that all important glass of water right up to the last mile of the marathon.

It began with learning how to swim easier–or–more efficiently, and not faster. I learned how to relax in the water and to use looooonnnng, smoooooth, strokes. I couldn’t believe how good I felt in the swim-bike transtion. I probably used less than a quarter of that glass of energy.

For the first 40 km. of the bike I let myself get into the rhythm of the change of demands on my body before I settled into the race pace I felt I could hold for the remaining 140 km.

I could “not” believe the run. Normally, it was a struggle from mile one. This time I seemed to settle into a rhythm that I could maintain from the very beginning and the usual tiny voice telling me to walk because it hurt so much, never appeared.

To emphasis my point, I remember beginning to count the athletes I passed as the marathon progressed. It was a way of keeping my mind occupied and when I reached 350 that I had passed, I just quit counting, because it became a chore there were so many.

Needless to say, everyone I passed was either faster than me in the swim, on the bike, or in transition—or all three. The whole point is, it doesn’t really matter how fast they were up to that point if they’re walking now. Why spend hours and hours learning to swim faster if you’re going to walk most of the marathon?

Just do the math. Say I’m running about an 8:15 pace like I did that year, from start to finish, and I pass someone at mile 10 and they have begun to walk and end up walking most of the marathon? They’ll probably cross that finish line about 2 hours after me. That’s the same person who swam faster and biked faster than I did. I had half a glass of water left and they were on empty at mile ten of the marathon.

I believe the best place to empty that glass is about 1 kilometer from the finish line. Its about there that the fan support has grown to huge proportions and most important of all you can hear the race announcer at the finish line. Those two happenings will carry you to the finish line. At that point, nothing is going to stop you.

I also think its best to be on empty just before the finish, because like me, if you finish and feel great and have a fast recovery, you most likely crossed the finish line with a quarter of a glass left.

And hey! You don’t want to wonder years down the road if you left something out on the course that day.

My name is Ray and I’m a veteran of over 25 years of endurance events, including 14 Ironman triathlons.

I have created a site called “Ironstruck” that is full of training and racing tips for the first time Ironman.

Why Not Me? European lottery Winning Time: My Passion of Winning the Euro Lotto plus Living a Life Sentence of Lavishness for the Rest of My Life
Wednesday 29 April 2009 @ 4:36 pm

My acquaintance Jack calls me on the phone to buzz me that he has found some on-line gambling sites that I just have to check out. I’ve never really been heavy into gambling, but I figured okey, I will give it a trial run. So I tested out some blackjack and poker, only truthfully, they simply aren’t my thing. And Then I find these online lottery websites and then I realise that through cyberspace I can play lots of several lotteries around the Earth. Instantly to me this looks a heap more delight, so I thought I will give it a go. In the beginning I tried out my luck at euro lottery, you know a European lottery. I chose my lottery numbers and then anticipated and daydreamed that I may win it big. I didn’t on that event but when the euromillions numbers came out; I was extremely surprised to realize that I had really come very close to the winning numbers. I sought out a couple of other world lotteries, only I felt that I did come so near the first time on the euro lotto, that I just had to give it another go. Now to date, I haven’t won millions of pounds, but, I have scooped some money, and so I carry on playing the euro millions and picking lotto winning numbers, going for the big win. I am one of those people who like to think in the possibility of winning it big, because it is tough to reckon getting that kind of money some other way.

As for my acquaintance, he still carries on with his passion of internet gambling and finds himself at the online gambling casino for at least 60 minutes at a time. He likewise has won some money, but it has high’s and low’s and the difference is, when you lose at gambling you normally lose a heap but when you lose at the elottery, it doesn’t cost you very much. I reckon that the lotto is the only way for me to go foreward and the thought of winning it big and on top of that, it is only costing me just a couple of pounds “makes it all more appealing”.

Know Your Bodybuilding Supplement - HMB
Monday 27 April 2009 @ 6:57 am

HMB stands for beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate. It is a metabolite of leucine, one of the body’s essential amino acids, with small amounts found naturally in catfish, grapefruit and alfalfa.

It has become very popular amongst athletes in recent years mainly due to the role it plays in the synthesis of muscle tissue. HMB has been subjected to many studies that have reached some interesting conclusions. One study showed that supplementation with 3 grams of HMB per day increased participants’ strength by a factor of three compared with placebo takers. Supplementing with the same amount also saw a reduction in bad cholesterol compared with the placebo group.

Clearly there is significant scientific backing for claims that HMB can speed up muscle growth, strength, endurance and fat loss. There are no known side effects when taken properly in amounts ranging from 3-5 grams each day. It should be taken before training or at bed time for best results.

World Cup 2006 Group Stage Review - Phase Two-Part One
Sunday 26 April 2009 @ 1:01 am

All 32 teams have played two matches as the World Cup groups have started to take shape. Some teams have qualified for the knockout stage while others will sweat on the last match. This is a short round-up of Groups A to D, of the results as they stand after two matches.

Group A
1. Ecuador 6pts, 2. Germany 6pts, 3. Poland 0pts, 4. Costa Rica 0pts

Ecuador are the unlikely leaders of Group A and have secured their place in the last 16 with a convincing 3-0 win over rock-bottom Costa Rica. Second goals of the tournament from Tenorio, Delgado and one from former Crystal Palace flop Kaviedes saw a good value bet at 11/10.

Germany, on the other hand, were 1/2 odds-on jollies to beat a disappointing Poland but needed a last gasp goal from veteran Oliver Neuville to see them off and join Ecuador in the knockout stage.

Group B
1. England 6pts, 2. Sweden 4pts, 3. Trinidad & Tobago 1pt, 4. Paraguay 0pts

England were expected to trounce Trinidad & Tobago and cement their place at the top of Group B and the last 16. However, the Caribbean side put in a tremendous performance and only two late goals from Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard spared their blushes at 2/9.

Sweden also needed a late goal against Paraguay to put one foot in the second round. Freddie Ljungberg netted the winner with two minutes left on the clock for the 4/5 Swedes.

Group C
1. Argentina 6pts, 2. Holland 6pts, 3. Ivory Coast 0pts, 4. Serbia & Montenegro 0pts

Argentina treated a global audience to a feast of beautiful football as they demolished Serbia & Montenegro 6-0. Argentina were 4/7 favourites but the price was secondary to the best 90 minutes of entertainment of the tournament so far. Maxi Rodriguez after six and 41 minutes sandwiched Esteban Cambiasso’s effort on 31 to give them a commanding half-time lead. The second half produced three more goals from Hernan Crespo after 78 minutes, Carlos Tevez on 84 and Lionel Messi with two minutes left.

Buoyed on by Argentina’s glittering performance, 4/6 Holland wasted no time against the Ivory Coast and struck after 22 and 25 minutes through Ruud van Nistelrooy and Robin van Persie. However, the Africans hit back through Arouna Kone on 37 to set up a tense afternoon.

Group D
1. Portugal 6pts, 2. Mexico 4pts, 3. Angola 1pt, 4. Iran 0pts

Portugal qualified comfortably for the second round with a 2-0 win over bottom of the table Iran. A goal from Deco after 63 minutes and Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty with 10 minutes remaining, secured an odds-on win at 1/2.

Mexico were left sweating on second round qualification after managing only a goalless draw with Angola. Goalkeeper Joao Ricardo, who hasn’t had a club for three years was magnificent on the evening to set up an unlikely draw at 5/2.

Barry Bonds And Steroid Use
Saturday 25 April 2009 @ 6:17 pm

I will give Barry Bonds the benefit of the doubt and consider him innocent until proven guilty. There is simply too much public “trying” of cases due to the “seriousness of the allegations” whereby people are tried, convicted, and sentenced by members of the media or by everyday citizens.

Yet, the case against Barry Bonds seems to be compelling, especially if he lied to a Grand Jury in 2003 about his steroid use, as alleged. If convicted, will he do jail time? Probably not. Instead, perhaps his record will expunged and Bonds be forever banned from Cooperstown.

Sometimes jail time is the right punishment for lawbreakers. In other cases, the removal of one’s legacy is the more appropriate punishment as it sends a strong message to others to not even consider going down that path. What a solid message this could send to youth who look up to a superstar like Bonds and attempt to emulate him in all of his ways…except for steroid use.

Baseball needs some serious governance. If the commisioner’s office doesn’t have the will to oversee what goes on, then Congress will certainly rise to the task. Not many people favor government intervention, but if professional baseball cannot regulate itself, then outside governance becomes all the more important.

All Men Are Created Equal, Until They Play Golf
Friday 24 April 2009 @ 8:23 am

Handicapping is the only way to make us even steven on the course. We all could play Tiger Woods and beat him if given enough stokes. Even the pro’s carry handicaps. Not all the pro’s are “scratch” golfers but they must play scratch in all professional tournaments.

The only problem us amateurs have on the course is, how many stokes. The scorecard dictates the holes where we get the stokes. How many, that’s what I want to know?

Golfers that play for money on the course sometimes have the tendency to keep their handicap high, in order to get more strokes, and they obviously shoot low in order to win. This is called “chumming”. I personally hate to play with a guy that has a handicap of 16 and shoots to a 8. That’s 8 strokes he uses to win. It’s as illegal and unsportsmanlike as can possibly be but is done without conscience.

NFL, NHL, MLB and other sports have handicaps; it’s called the “spread”. Golf doesn’t have a “spread” until it comes to matchups, and then its a line.

I think to make golf even in the gaming world, they should have handicaps. That’s what I would do, give the big boys handicaps.

Let’s take Corey Pavin. He’s one of the shorter hitters on tour. I can make him even up with John Daly by giving Corey, say, 30 yards. Would anybody bet on Corey? 30 yards? Maybe, Corey has been known to hit the cart path.

I think all golf bets on tour should have a handicap. Therefore, we’ve evened up the playing field. You will probably never see it on a gaming site or Las Vegas. We need to make the field even.

Tiger Woods is going to beat Corey Pavin 10 out of 10 times both in scoring and driving distance. But, give Corey 5 strokes and 30 yards and I’ll take Corey every time. Now, the field is even.

All of us that play golf are in this predicament, know what I mean Verne?

I’ve played Golf for over 48 years and when I was in high school I was proud of my handicap being a 2 or better. That was back in the day when Golf was considered a sissy sport. Now, when I play with my old friends from school, I just take their money in the 19th hole. http://www.thepropsroom.com and see how Golf should be handicapped.

Why Do We Blush Anyway?
Thursday 23 April 2009 @ 11:23 pm

The other day I was at the coffee shop and this really attractive guy was standing behind me while I was waiting in line for my daily latte. I noticed him the second he opened the door and instantly thought he was so hot. While he was standing behind me I pretended to be busy on my cell phone by texting one of my good friends just because I did not want to look like a lost puppy just looking around. While I was doing this I accidentally dropped my purse and as I bent down to pick it up he reached down to help me. As we were both right there with the purse we made some serious eye contact. I blushed right away, my face turned red. I am not sure why this happened and I did not like that it happened, but it did. He did not blush, just me. We ended up talking in line and in just a minute of conversation he asked for my number, and I gave it too him. I think because I blushed it gave him the signal that I was attracted to him and this gave him the opportunity to ask for my number. We are now dating and we go out and do all kinds of healthy activities, we have something wonderful going and hopefully soon he will ask me to marry him and we can live happily ever after.

Vegas Getaway?
Wednesday 22 April 2009 @ 3:03 am

Las Vegas is hailed as one of the most expensive cities in the United States and North America, but truly enough, for a smart patron who knows the right timing and place to secure good deals of discount Vegas hotels ; this isn’t so true after all. Discount Vegas hotels are in fact everywhere around the city, with most found online via hundreds of accommodation websites as well. It’s definitely as easy as ABC to book a room via these websites, without needing to queue up among thousands of others in travel fairs fighting for the best deals in town. In terms of services, these discount hotels do not lack in any quality as compared to common American-standard hotels; with only the price determining the satisfaction factor. In essence, discount Vegas hotels are fairly distinct from cheap hotels around, for the former would include normal star-rated hotels offering accommodation pricing at competitive rates.

Airline tickets to Las Vegas are also quite cheap at times. Such inexpensive tickets are commonly found through travel fairs all around the country, and not forgetting on the internet as well. Getting a cheap airline ticket can be quite challenging at times, depending on the seasons; and generally Las Vegas is unquestionably a hot spot for common air travelers. Some people prefer to drive into Vegas, but if you do not find it feasible, then it’s probably just to reserve your flight ticket a few months ahead of your trip or book a Las Vegas vacation package. Peak seasons, such as school holidays and summer breaks, are bad times for last-minute airline ticket buyers; for such tickets not only prove to be unavailable, they’re also sometimes too-highly priced according to demands. Buying a return airline ticket from Vegas is hence recommended by various sources, especially with airline operators deciding to restructure their pricing occasionally according to the said demands.
