Using a Fishing Rod
Friday 30 January 2009 @ 6:01 pm

Rods are basically made from carbon. Plastic, composite carbon combined with Kevlar, which is a kind of material that is bullet proof, or just high carbon. Since the carbon’s force and strength in connection to its mass is light, making it strong material that can allow thinner fabrication but still is able to keep the span and length. A rod that is lighter evidently handling will be easier, controlling it would be less tiring on ones arms and reduces resistance to air giving one an easier time accurately casting it, particularly on windy ways.

Rods come in silicon carbide, hard chrome or ceramic rings having a function of letting the line pass through. These are precisely used because of their smoothness having the function to minimize friction when passing through the line and keep the maximum strength. Silicon materials are a fact costly, so an alternative is bring into play ceramic rings like Zircon which when taken in to account, it is not as tough or as light, but is much cost effective. Rings made of chrome are better, although every season they require replacement, they do deliver excellent job of line running. At least thirteen rings are needed from the handle all through the tip, lesser near the handle, needing more close to the tip. The line can fasten itself to the rod, if you don’t have enough rings.

When determining length of the rod, you want to take into account exactly what kind of fishing you want. If you want far out fishing, in that case choose a larger rod as this will offer you better control when you are playing the fish. If you are planning to go fishing in an area that is enclosed, you will need a shorter rod. Normally, the safe rod size to choose is13ft (3.9m). This is lengthy enough for a waggler but does not cast out too far.

Handles

Handles are made from either cork or foam. Whichever you choose, this is a matter of preference. Just try handling both materials so you can have a good “feel” before buying it.

Action

Action is the term used in describing how the rod will bend when it is placed under the lot of strain and effort of a fighting fish.

There are two types of tip on a rod, the hollow and spliced tips. Hollow tips are good in catching carp, tench and chub which have a progressive or developing action making it sharp for quick bites, yet proficient enough to manage long distance strikes. Spliced tips normally are normally spliced to the end with two feet solid carbon. This rod is sharper so it is a good pick for fast acting fish.

When choosing a rod, these questions will help you pick the right one:

1. How frequent and where do you fish? Are you a beginner, a weekend warrior, or a tournament pro? If you are just starting out, you may need to budget and spend less money on your first rod. Once you learn the techniques and once you have decided that fishing is for you, that is the time to spend on more specific rods.

2. Freshwater or Saltwater fish? While there are a few rods that can be used for both fresh and saltwater fish, most rods are made for a specific purpose and application.

3. Spinning or Casting? The species you that you choose to chase will determine it.

4. Power, sensitivity, and your technique. The rod should match the way you enjoy fishing. If you like to fish with lures, then you should look for a rod that is comfortable enough to cast frequently all day long.

The Olympic Hockey Rules vs. the NHL Rules
Monday 26 January 2009 @ 9:43 pm

If you are a new hockey fan, you may not be aware of the differences between Olympic hockey and NHL hockey. Even though these two organizations were founded at around the same time in the early 1900’s and the essential principles of the game are the same, the rules for the two are not exactly the same. If you understand the differences between Olympic hockey and NHL hockey, when you watch you will be able to enjoy the games more because you will not be confused by the differences.

Here are some of the key differences between Olympic hockey and the NHL:
1. The ice size: The Olympic hockey rink is over 3,000 square feet bigger. It is longer, wider, and has more space between the goal and the end boards. This minimizes the amount of checking that occurs in Olympic matches.

2. Penalty shots: In Olympic hockey, any player from the team can shoot a penalty shot whether they were the penalty victim or not. However, the victim must shoot the penalty shot in the NHL.

3. Fighting: Although this seems to be an important part of any hockey game, in Olympic hockey those who fight are given a match penalty and are ejected. In the NHL, players are put in a penalty box for 5 minutes and then they are allowed to play again.

4. Shootout: A shootout is only used in regular season play in the NHL-they choose three players from each team to break the tie. During the playoffs, however, the teams play in overtime until one team scores the winning goal. In Olympic hockey, if the score is tied, there is a sudden death overtime period of 10 minutes. If the score remains tied, then a shootout is held with 5 players from each team.

5. Icing: In the NHL, icing is only called after a player shoots down the ice from their team’s side of the center line and it crosses the goal line and an opposing team’s player touches it. Meanwhile, in the Olympics, no player from any team has to touch the puck before icing is called.

6. Obstruction: While the NHL rules on fighting are more lenient than the Olympics, their rules on things like holding, hooking and interference are tougher. The international hockey community is implementing stricter rules as well in order to better protect players.

Now you’re ready to watch some hockey!

Choosing the Right Golf Balls
Monday 26 January 2009 @ 7:47 am

You’ve watched Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson on television - you know the brand of golf balls they use. And they’re good, right? You should be able to use the same brand of golf balls and be good too, right? Wrong!

Maybe using the same type golf balls as the PGA golf pros will improve your game…and maybe it won’t. You need to choose the golf ball that’s right for your own game. Choosing the wrong kind of golf ball can be a bigger handicap to your game than starting at the 19th hole. Choosing the right kind of golf ball can have you feeling like a Tiger, even if you don’t quite have his handicap.

Golf balls come in three styles: 2-piece, 3-piece, and high performance. 2-piece golf balls are designed for improving your distance, while 3-piece and high performance golf balls can typically help with accuracy.

The 2-piece golf balls are especially good if you’re just starting out or if you’ve played just enough to know you really want to give this sport a try. They’re also terrific for high handicap golfers who have been around a while. Hey, we can’t all be pros! These are the most common type on the market and usually less expensive than 3-piece balls. Best of all, the large rubber core provides faster speed off the tee for those of you with a slow swing. In turn, that gives you greater distance.

It could happen that the first time you played, everyone was astounded at the way you slammed that little white ball with the power of a major league batter aiming for a grand slam. But that’s doubtful. Distance is usually developed over time as you develop your swing and find the groove. When you are just beginning, chances are you need to improve your accuracy more than your distance. Once you’ve developed your accuracy, then is the time to choose a golf ball and clubs that will help improve your distance.

If you haven’t developed consistent accuracy - that is, having the ball consistently land in the same “general” area each time - then the 3-piece golf ball probably isn’t right for you. It’s just not as forgiving of miss-hits as the 2-piece golf ball. The same goes for high performance balls. They’re pretty much designed for advanced golfers…and their price bears this out!

One factor to always be considered is cost. Simple, standard 2-piece golf balls usually come in 18-packs and are relatively inexpensive. The cost of golf balls may seem small in comparison to the overall cost of pursuing the sport but the inexperienced golfer can go through a lot of golf balls in a very short space of time!

The key, as with most golf equipment, is to choose the right kind of golf ball for your level of play. Consider your swing and your game, and then choose the ball that will help eliminate your weaknesses and build upon your strengths.

If you don’t choose the right golf ball for your level of play, your golf round might just become what Mark Twain once called it: “…a pleasant walk, spoiled”.

Intro to Airsoft
Sunday 25 January 2009 @ 1:38 am

Airsoft is a military/law enforcement sport simulation, where players participate in a mock style combat with military like weapons and tactics. Firearms are 1:1 scale models of real firearms. A typical example of an airsoft firearm is: firing 6mm or 8mm spherical, solid plastic BBs of usually .12, .20, or .25 grams, with propulsion for the projectile provided by manually compressed springs, compressed gas, or electric motors.

Airsoft as a sport is extremely popular in eastern Asia, in Japan, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. This popularity is a result of real arms being difficult or impossible to obtain because of local laws. For this and other reasons the vast majority of Airsoft guns, accessories, and aftermarket upgrade parts are made in Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea. For a while it was rumored that Airsoft was made illegal in Mainland China. That is just a rumor though as it is actually very legal and extremely popular.

The popularity of Airsoft is starting to grow in the West. Especially in countries like the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Finland, Italy, Belgium and Denmark. Starting in 2003 Daisy once again started marketing airsoft guns for sale in the US, under their “Powerstrike” brand name. Trying to get in on the expanding market, Powerstrike and other competing models have started to appear in mass across the US. The Internet auction site, eBay, has noticed the increased interest in airsoft products as well, and as a result has created several categories specifically for the thousands of listings of airsoft gear and guns.

Indianapolis Semi-Pro Football Team Wins National Championship
Saturday 24 January 2009 @ 3:02 am

The Hoosier Hurricanes invaded Homestead, Florida for last weekend’s 4th annual Minor League Football News (MLFN) Super Football Weekend strong winded and left with reign.

In a game dominated by defense, the Hurricanes hammered the Carolina Express 41-0 to win MLFN’s AA National Championship.

“To reach this point so quickly is incredible,” said Hurricanes head coach John Starlin. “I really feel like a proud father to all of those guys.”

While the ‘Canes’ offense was strong, the play of their defense was dominant. The ‘Canes forced eight turnovers and controlled the Express’ offense, which towered over them in size and power. Early in the contest, it looked like the Express were going to use their Power I offensive attack to run right down the throat of the ‘Canes’ defense. When the Express were forced to throw, however, the speedy Hurricane secondary was able to take the game away. The first of four Express interceptions was thrown on that opening drive, and the Hurricanes never looked back.

“They were a tough team to scout, but I really think they underestimated our speed,” said Starlin. “Other coaches from their league were able to help me out as far as scouting, but I knew as solid as our defense was that we could play with anybody.”

Staying with the defensive theme of the game, linebacker Deon Smith was awarded the game’s MVP for his 12 tackle performance. He also intercepted a pass and forced a fumble.

The AA national title was the perfect end to a season that was already storybook for the Indianapolis squad, founded by co-owners Starlin, David Day, and NFL wide receiver Reggie Wayne. In their first year of existence, the Hurricanes were awarded Best New Team in the Midwest by MLFN after finishing 13-1 in the Ohio Valley Football League (OVFL). Their OVFL season finished with a Super Bowl victory over the Charlotte (MI) Roughriders, 21-0.

“This has really been a dream season for us,” said Starlin.

Starlin’s players have also won numerous accolades from MLFN. Four ‘Canes were honored with Midwest All-American status: Derrick Ellis was an honorable mention Midwest All-American at running back, wide receiver Scott Penick made second team Midwest All-American, and Corey Crumpton and Charles Avant were first and second team at defensive back, respectively.

Ellis, a former “Mr. Indiana” while playing running back in high school, was also named Running Back of the Year in the Midwest Region by MLFN.

The Hurricanes will return to the OVFL next season and compete to become the first ever back-to-back champion in league history, a feat no team has accomplished in 40 years of competition.

“We are trying to develop something special here,” said Starlin.

It certainly looks like the Hurricanes are off to a roaring start.

Wednesday 21 January 2009 @ 6:46 pm

betting casino gambling online sport

Some risk takers will have encountered the slogan “offshore sports betting”, though may not be entirely certain what it indicates. A foreign gambling site basically acts extrinsically to the dominion of any distinct nation on the other hand it can be an on-line sports betting internet site which has the bulk of its file servers within the borders of a land in which machine-accessible sports betting is not prohibited. So the concise version is therefore, it is a gambling site operating outside the state of the player. Web based sports wagering webpages are by and large governed through 3 structures. They are the OSGA (the Offshore Gaming Association), IGC (Interactive Gaming Council) and finally the Fidelity Trust Gaming Association FTGA.

The OSGA is in fact a self-governing watchdog authority which supervises the modern overseas sports gambling trade, they undertake to afford sports gamers an easy way to to easily choose legitimate web based organizations to play games of fate with. The agency aims to watch over customer’s rights, additionally they don’t demand any yearly expenses. The IGC has worked up a name for encouraging reliability, fairness also believability due to the ethical code it presents, also its appeal for trustworthy business concerns. The Interactive Gaming Council governs overseas sports gaming through advancing a special 10-point operative process and also bills betting business concerns a price for featuring their logo. The FTGA has been founded in order to set a benchmark which will improve the policies of live betting trading operations. Power Golf Exercises That Are Proven To Add Distance
Monday 19 January 2009 @ 8:14 pm

Power golf exercises are a unique set of exercises that you do not do in a gym on machines, nor do you lift heavy weights. For that matter, you can do simple power golf exercises right in your home with minimal equipment.

You see…to improve the power in your golf swing, you need to look at the mechanics that create the power.

It’s not your arms swinging the club as hard as you can! It’s not your legs driving your body through the swing! And it’s not swinging some funky 50 inch shaft with a 600cc titanium head either.

It’s quite simple!

The power in your golf swing is your CORE!

Your core is the engine to your swing. If your core is weak or inflexible, you will never be able to hit a powerful tee shot. This is harsh…but very true!

The modern power golf swing is one of being “connected” with your upper body. Not letting your letting your arms get separated from your body. Rotating your upper body as a whole, over a somewhat stable lower body will produce maximum power at impact.

So the perfect power golf exercises involve rotational movements with resistance in your core area. The are many exercises you can do that will dramatically improve your driving distance and power…and no gym required!

A simple power golf exercise for your core is my Seated Twist w/Dumbbell:
• Sit upright in your chair.
• Hold single dumbbell straight out from chest with arms fully extended.
• While keeping your head focused straight ahead, rotate your arms to the right, then to the left as far as you can go both ways.
• Do this non-stop for 20 total rotations.
• Pause for 15 seconds and repeat 2 more times.

At first you will feel very restricted in your midsection. That’s a sign of how limited your rotational flexibility really is. But do this exercise daily and you will see improvement quickly.

The next time you step out onto the course, you’ll blast your drives up to 20 yards further!

As you can see above…the key is ROTATIONAL exercises with resistance, whether it be a single dumbbell, exercise tubing or even a weighted golf club.

Doesn’t matter what you use, as long as it is up to 5 pounds in weight and you can handle it easily in both hands. If you’re already in good shape go for 10-15 pounds and increase your rate of speed. This will both improve your “fast-twitch” core muscles and also your range of motion for a bigger backswing and a complete follow through.

So you see…I wasn’t fibbing! It doesn’t take a gym or fancy equipment to do effective and proven power golf exercises!

Whether you are training for a sports competition or to hoist the kids into the car check out these
Monday 19 January 2009 @ 4:32 pm

Your core is made up of the often neglected abdominal, lower back, and oblique, or rotator, muscle groups. Most of our movements originate from the core as it is a major link between our upper and lower body. It is also responsible for stabilization and is a key factor in developing power, speed, quickness, agility and coordination.

A strong core is essential for good posture and is vital in protecting the lower back from injury. On top of all of that, having a strong set of abs and lower back just looks good!

Perform all exercises using slow and controlled motions while focusing on the muscles intended to be worked. Do not use jerking types of motions. Stop immediately if you feel any pain or discomfort. Always consult your doctor before starting an exercise program.

1. Foot Tapper, (Oblique Exercise) - Lie on your back with your feet flat on the floor about six inches apart and your knees bent. Position your feet fairly close to your body, arms at your side, shoulders on the floor or close to it and chin tucked. Squeeze your left oblique (side of abdominal) and tap your left foot with your left hand. Do the same with your right hand and continue alternating back and forth. Tap each foot 10 times. To increase the difficulty reach under the legs and tap the opposite foot.

2. Bridging, (Lower Back Exercise) - Lie on your back with your feet shoulder width apart, flat on the floor with your knees bent. Place your hands on the floor next to your hips. Contract the low back muscles and lift the hips off of the floor until your torso and thighs are in a straight line. Hold for 5-10 seconds, return to the starting position and repeat 5-10 times. A pillow is optional.

3. Lower Body Crunch, (Lower Abdominal Exercise) - Lie on your back, bend your knees toward the ceiling and raise your feet off the ground. Your thighs should be at a 90 degree angle at your hips with your feet close to your buttocks. Place your hands flat by your side. Roll your hips and knees toward your chest while contacting the lower abdominal muscles. Return to a 90 degree angle and repeat 10-15 times.

4. Planking, (Total Abdominal Exercise) - Start in a traditional push-up position with your back straight. Place your elbows on the floor directly under your shoulders. Tighten your abs and lower back and hold this position for 30-60 seconds. Rest for 30 seconds and repeat. To isolate the upper or lower abs slowly extend one arm or leg out off the ground at a time alternating all four. A towel under the elbows is optional.
